Famiglia Sgarbossa
I am Alberto Sgarbossa, a restorer by profession and a traveler by passion. I have visited about 40 countries around the world and known profoundly different cultures, absorbing colors, expressions and emotions from all of them. By work I deal with artistic and architectural restorations and I also dabble in the production of artistic furniture, and with Casa Riva Vena I wanted to bring these skills and passions of mine to the place that for 20 years has entered my heart, ever since with my family we fell in love with Chioggia and carved out for us a refuge here where we could spend our free moments in tranquility and harmony. The purchase of the property was somewhere between a stroke of luck and a gamble! I had been looking for a canal-side home for years, in Chioggia also known as “little Venice,” a city I have always adored not only for what it offers on an artistic and cultural level, but also because I have always been fascinated by the lagoon life that revolves around water and its lunar cycles.
Chioggia is magical, and I with Casa Riva Vena have tried to give credit to this extraordinary place in the hope that other travelers may find in this my home what I seek when I move and discover here part of me and the passion I have tried to convey.
It is difficult to say what I look for when I reside as a guest in a B&B or vacation home, tradition and innovation, past and present, architecture and landscape, aesthetics and functionality. In the restoration of Casa Riva Vena I tried to combine in harmony these elements, which are only seemingly contrasting. Thus a historic house was transformed into a contemporary residence while maintaining the distinctive features of the Venetian lagoon.
The rooms feature mirrors and a mainly neutral color palette with light-colored walls that amplify the feeling of spaciousness, while the abundant presence of natural light provides a bright and welcoming atmosphere.
Crowning the project is the breathtaking view of the city’s main canal, a city that is changeable and elusive, yet still intact in its traces and reminiscences of the past. This is how Chioggia appears reflected in the panes of its windows, with domes, bell towers, columns, clouds, chimneys, and masts sprouting from within the window frames of Casa Riva Vena.
